A&J Scott welcome North East MEPPosted: 18th March 2015
A&J Scott Ltd were delighted to welcome North East MEP Paul Brannen and a delegation of forestry experts to their Northumberland sawmill as part of the MEP’s recent fact-finding tour of the county.
Paul Brannen, a member of the European Parliament Agriculture and Rural Development Committee, visited the company’s Wooperton site as well as Egger Forestry in Hexham, and a new major commercial woodland project at Wallshield in Northumberland, where he planted the first conifer tree.
After a tour of production facilities including the recently completed bandmill line, Managing Director, Robert Scott, said, “It was a great pleasure to meet Paul and welcome him to our sawmill site. We are pleased that our local MEP is showing such interest in the forestry sector in our region and proud to show him around the facilities which we have invested heavily in over recent years and are continuing to develop.”
Mr Brannen said, “I am a strong supporter of forestry, which is good for jobs and leisure opportunities, and also gives a boost to the environment. It was a useful day and I’m proud to highlight the importance of forestry to the North East. It is a vital part of our economy and one which could grow in the future.”
