AJS picks up the batten!Posted: 3rd April 2013
One of the UK’s leading independent sawmills is gearing up for further growth this year as it introduces further new finishing capabilities.
A&J Scott, based in Northumberland, are well established as a supplier of treated fencing materials across the country. Now the company has installed a new cutting line with integrated strapping facilities which will allow it to supply sawn timber battens, pre-packed in convenient bundles of 10. The move comes in response to requests from customers looking to source a full range of timber products from the company, and provides an efficient method of producing battens including 50x25, 38x25 and 38x19, in lengths up to 4.8m.
The new production line also adds to the range of treated timber products available from A&J Scott, which has recently adopted Wolman’s market-leading preservative solution and installed a third pressure treatment vessel. The addition of the third tank takes the company’s overall treating capacity in excess of 1,200m3 per week, offering a choice of green and brown finish treated fencing.
The latest investment continues the company’s growth over recent years following regular investments in new production capacity. The company now supplies its range of standard fencing products, landscaping sleepers and other timber components to a wide range of customers across the UK.
Managing Director, Robert Scott, said, “It’s fantastic that we’ve been able to bring this extra facility online to support our customers. We’ve built solid relationships over the years based on the quality of our sawn product and our service, and the flexibility to respond to demand is important. We look forward to expanding production on the new line as we go into the spring season.”
