First tilt at production for new sawmill!Posted: 13th February 2015
We are delighted to report that, following a major investment and over 6 months of building work, our new additional sawmill, christened 'Mill 9', has been brought into operation.
The new mill is an EWD Bandsaw and edger line, installed at our Northumberland site. It is a fully independent sawmill including butt reducer, debarker and resaw line, equipped with a single double-cut headrig and the first tilted carriage in the UK.
The mill will give us an increased capacity to produce railway sleepers, our range of fencing timbers and give us additional flexibility to produce longer length, heavy section timbers.
The new building will also house the company's new saw doctors' workshop, giving the saw doctor team a new, modernised facitlity to manufacture and maintain the blades and equipment so crucial to the quality of our finished products.
Robert Scott, Managing Director, said, "It is a great pleasure to see the new mill coming on line for production at just the right time, ahead of the new spring season. After a year which has seen timber supplies under incredible pressure, this extra capacity will give us a real advantage in providing the service and quality which our loyal customers need in this ever competitive market. We're now looking forward to another successful year."
