Further expansion for North sawmillPosted: 4th February 2011
One of the UK’s leading independent homegrown sawmills has announced further expansion as it seeks to provide improved service and flexibility to customers.
A & J Scott Ltd is expanding timber treatment operations at its site in Northumberland with the addition of a new pressure vessel. The new tank will provide a significant extra facility for green and brown finish preservative, increasing the company’s overall treatment capacity by 50%.
This is the latest move in the company’s expansion plans which have seen production capacity increased dramatically in recent years, and will meet growing demand for treated timber products. The new tank will also support the company’s recent launch of a new stock centre to provide a more flexible service to its customers in the fencing market.
The introduction of the new vessel follows A & J Scott’s adoption of the Osmose Naturewood treatment. This widely used preservative system is based on copper and an organic co-biocide (Alkaline Copper Quaternary). Copper, a naturally occurring mineral, is an effective and widely used fungicide.
Robert Scott, who took over as Managing Director from his father Andrew last year, said, “We are delighted to be bringing this extra facility online to support our increased production capacity. This latest investment will speed up our treatment process and help us to provide a faster, more flexible response to customers, in particular from our new fencing stock centre.”
