New site seals year of growth for AJSPosted: 3rd December 2019
A&J Scott are pleased to consolidate another year of investment and growth by opening a new production facility at the recently acquired Chirnside Sawmill near Duns in the Scottish borders. Since taking over the site the company has renewed facilities and infrastructure and is now running a new production department to supplement production output at the main site in Wooperton. The site will specialise in re-sawn and manufactured products, produced to high standards and exacting specifications.
This follows a period in which the company has installed a new state of the art processing and handling line at its Northumberland base, as well as invested in a major upgrade to the main sawmill, Mill 7, at Wooperton. Total investment in capital equipment since 2014 has now risen over £9million, marking the company's determination to build on its success in recent years, growing a loyal base of customers across the UK.
In a further boost the company's growth was acclaimed this year when it was named in the North East Fastest 50, a list which recognises those market leading companies inspiring belief, spearheading innovation and driving change. Compiled by UK Top 100 law firm Ward Hadaway and supported by The Journal newspaper, the North East Fastest 50 highlights and celebrates the achievements of fast-growing, profitable privately-owned businesses across the region.
The family owned company is now well positioned for sustained growth in its main markets for fencing products, railway sleepers, garden product components and other outdoor timbers in the years ahead, and still has plans for further development in the near future.
Robert Scott, Managing Director, said, "We are very grateful to our customers for supporting us through another strong year in 2019, despite the uncertainties around the economy and political environment. The relationships we have with our customers give us the confidence to plan and invest for the future, and we will be looking to develop new opportunities to continue to improve product quality and service standards in the years to come."
