Work begins on major AJS growth programme

Posted: 8th April 2014

Site works are beginning at A&J Scott in the first steps of the company’s latest £4million investment programme.

The company is delighted to announce that it has recently signed contracts with German sawmill machinery manufacturers EWD and PAUL to install a new bandmill at its Northumberland site, as well as make some improvements to the main sawmill production line which was installed in 2007.

The first stages of the programme, already underway, will see the removal of machinery from one of the older re-saw workshops on the site, which will then be demolished completely to allow for construction of a new building to house the new bandmill line. Groundworks and construction will continue during the coming summer months in preparation for the new machinery being installed during the later stages of 2014.

Installation is expected to be fully completed in time for the new line to be operational early in 2015. The new bandmill will be particularly efficient at producing the company’s range of heavy timber products such as railway sleepers, agricultural purlins and other large section products, as well as products within the main fencing range including gateposts, fence posts and rails. The efficient recovery will also increase the company’s output of fence boards, sarking boards and other products.

As part part of this programme, re-work facitilities on site have been reorganised to increase efficiency, while a follow-up programme of works will see upgrades to the company’s main production line in its current Mill 7, which will increase output of the main range of fencing items.
