Work starts on new investment at AJSPosted: 22nd October 2018
Work has started on installation of a new processing line as one of the UK’s leading independent sawmill companies builds on its growth in recent years.
Family owned A&J Scott Ltd has commissioned a new secondary processing line at its sawmill site in Northumberland. The £3.1 million project, due for completion before the end of the year, takes the total investment in new capital equipment at the site over £8 million since 2014, as the family seek to consolidate the company’s market position and establish firm foundations for future growth.
The new line is being installed by German machinery specialist Kallfass, and will boost the efficiency of the company’s re-work department, increasing its capacity for value added timber fencing and garden products. The state of the art processing and handling line will incorporate secondary processes such as re-saws, pointing, planing and moulding machinery, as well as automated timber bundling and stacking. The line will allow the company to develop its sales of higher value products by increasing production efficiency and capacity throughout this department.
This development follows a major upgrade to the company’s primary sawmill, completed in 2016 in partnership with Soderhamn Erikson and Milltech, and the installation of a complete brand new EWD large log sawmill line at the Northumberland site in 2014.
Robert Scott, Managing Director, said, “We are delighted to commence this new investment, which will enhance the company’s competitiveness and reputation as a supplier of quality sawn timber products nationwide. The overall investment programme will help to cement the future of our site for generations to come.”
